Andrés Galeano’s Unknown Photographers is a post-photographic project that reflects on photography’s latent desire to transcend the moment, a desire that is revealed through the artist’s montage of analogue photographs discovered in found family photo albums.
As a publication, Unknown Photographers is an artist book that pays tribute to the anonymous photographer, and displays some of Galeano’s collections of amateur photography together with some artworks. Playing with collective memory, recycling iconographies, and combining archetypal images, this publication is a visual essay on photography that transforms seemingly banal, second-hand snapshots into a fascinating photo album that belongs to everyone of us.
This book has been published on the occasion of the exhibition Andrés Galeano. Unknown Photographers (June 19- August 25, 2018) organized by Galeria Bessa Pereira at Fundação Portuguesa das Comunicações in Lisbon.
