style=\"font-size: medium;\">wishes to marry two homonymous phenomena: the lost cloud archives of the old Meteorological Service of Catalonia (SMC), with portraits set against lost cloud backgrounds widely distributed as Victorian <\/span><\/span><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><i>cartes de visite<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"> from 1854 onward. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><p lang=\"es-ES\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-CA\">Departing from the sky and weather from a physical and meteorological perspective, this project aims to reveal the essential metaphysical link between the photographic medium and the celestial, and the transcendence of Meteorol<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"it-IT\">\u00f2<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-CA\">gic de Catalunya (SMC) currently held at the Institut Cartogr<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"fr-FR\">\u00e0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"it-IT\">fic<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-CA\"> i Geol<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span (ICGC), where some 6000 glass plate negatives, and thousands of other photographs of clouds (on contact sheets and developed on paper) can be consulted. All of these photographs were financed by the patron Rafael Patxot i Jubert (1872-1964) and served as the basis of the magnificent International <em>Atlas of Clouds and States of the Sky<\/em> (in different versions &#8211; Catalan<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"it-IT\">, English<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"pt-PT\">, German<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-CA\"> and French \u2013 with editions in 1925, 1930, 1932, 1935) also financed entirely by him. The cloud photographer of the SMC was Josep <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"it-IT\">Pons i Girbau (1889-1966).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><p lang=\"es-ES\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-CA\">&#8211; The archive of the Real Academia de las Ciencias y Artes de Barcelona (RACAB), an institution that was pioneering and crucial to understanding the beginning and development as much as that of photography, as that of meteorology, astronomy and seismology in Spain. It was the RACAB who brought the daguerreotype to the country, and who organized Spain\u2019s first photograph (November 20, 1839). They also introduced the calotype (a photo on Talbot paper) in 1849; moreover, they constructed and have maintained the Fabra Observatory from 1904 until current day, where three generations of the Campo family lived. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Franco\u2019s conquest of Barcelona on January 26, 1939 precipitated the sudden closure of the SMC three days later and the confiscation of all its archives on behalf of the National Meteorological Service (today AEMET). These archives of the SMC, whose base was in the office of the <\/span><\/span><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-CA\">Rellotge de l\u2019Escola Industrial de Barcelona, <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">were hidden in the seismic room of the Fabra Observatory to safeguard them from possible bombing. Other family archives of the Campos were also in the Observatory and went unnoticed during Franco\u2019s raid.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><p lang=\"es-ES\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-CA\">Departing, therefore, from scientific photographs destined for the study of clouds and meteorological predictions, this project wishes to trace a route in which family photography and nephological photography intertwine, through the life of its protagonist photographers Josep Pons and Gabriel Campo, and equally through the photographic practices of their contemporaries (for example, the Barcelonean studios of <span lang=\"es-ES\">An\u00edbal<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-CA\">\u00a0Bar\u00f3, Napole\u00f3n, Audouard, Daguerre\u2026)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><p lang=\"es-ES\">[ESP]<\/p><p lang=\"es-ES\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"es-ES\">Para articular este discurso me valgo de las fotograf\u00edas encontradas principalmente en dos archivos barceloneses olvidados como son:<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><p lang=\"es-ES\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"es-ES\">&#8211; El archivo del antiguo Servei Meteorol<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"it-IT\">\u00f2<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"es-ES\">gic de Catalunya (SMC) depositado actualmente en el Institut Cartogr<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"fr-FR\">\u00e0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"it-IT\">fic<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"es-ES\"> i Geol<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"it-IT\">\u00f2<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"es-ES\">gic de Catalunya (ICGC), en donde son consultables digitalmente unos 6000 negativos de vidrio y otras miles de fotos de nubes en fichas y positivadas en papel. El fot\u00f3grafo de nubes del SMC fue Josep <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"it-IT\">Pons i Girbau (1889-1966)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><p lang=\"es-ES\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"es-ES\">&#8211; El archivo de la Real Academia de las Ciencias y Artes de Barcelona (RACAB), instituci\u00f3n pionera y crucial para entender el inicio y desarrollo tanto de la fotograf\u00eda como de la meteorolog\u00eda, astronom\u00eda y sismolog\u00eda en Espa\u00f1a. La RACAB fue quien trajo el daguerrotipo y quien organiz\u00f3 la primera foto del pa\u00eds (20 nov. 1839), quien introdujo el calotipo (foto sobre papel de Talbot) en 1849, adem\u00e1s de construir y mantener el Observatorio Fabra desde 1904 hasta la actualidad, en donde vivieron tres generaciones de la familia Campo.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><p lang=\"es-ES\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"es-ES\">La conquista franquista de Barcelona el 26 de enero del 1939 propici\u00f3 la repentina clausura del SMC tres d\u00edas m\u00e1s tarde y la confiscaci\u00f3n de todos sus fondos por parte del Servicio Meteorol\u00f3gico Nacional (hoy AEMET). Estos fondos del SMC, cuya sede estaba en el edificio del Rellotge de l\u2019Escola Industrial de Barcelona, se hallaban escondidos en la sala s\u00edsmica del Observatori Fabra para salvaguardarlos de un posible bombardeo. Otros fondos familiares de la familia Campo tambi<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"fr-FR\">\u00e9<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"es-ES\">n estaban en el Observatorio y pasaron inadvertidos al saqueo <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"it-IT\">franquista.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><p lang=\"es-ES\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"es-ES\">Partiendo, por tanto, de fotos cient\u00edficas destinadas al estudio de las nubes y la predicci\u00f3n meteorol\u00f3gica este proyecto quiere trazar un recorrido en el que la fotograf\u00eda familiar y la nefol\u00f3gica se entrecruzan, tanto a trav\u00e9s de la vida de sus fot\u00f3grafos protagonistas Josep Pons y Gabriel Campo, como a trav\u00e9s de las pr\u00e1cticas fotogr\u00e1ficas de sus coet\u00e1neos (p. e. los estudios
