From 1854 onwards, portrait photography in the Carte de Visite<\/em><\/strong> format led to a great popularisation of photography and bourgeois expansion of the photographic business. The Carte de Visite<\/em> was usually a 54 x 89mm albumin print on very thin paper mounted on a 64 x 100mm card. On the back of the card, the photographic studio gave information about its address and services. This information was sometimes accompanied by a few prefabricated illustrations in the Victorian taste of that time.<\/p>

Photo Allegories<\/strong><\/em> is a photographic series based on my collection of illustrations of the backs of Carte de Visite<\/em> that reveal some of the allegories with which the young photographic medium used to identify itself. My digital intervention consists of removing all the calligraphic information from the Carte de Visite<\/em> in order to leave only the illustration. And in the same way that the Carte de Visite<\/em> were the first photos destined for family photo albums, this series is printed on mobile phone cases, that is, it uses the back of the contemporary photo album as a support: the smartphone<\/strong>.<\/p>

Photo Allegories<\/em> shows angels who photograph, who paint, who send photos from the clouds, who hold mirrors, who glow in the sun… revealing to us both the connection of the photographic
medium with the celestial, and the initial link between photography, painting and engraving.<\/p>

Through the history of Photography, this project reflects on the popularisation of the medium itself and its roots. After the democratisation of Kodak from 1888 onwards, the smartphone connected to the internet seems to be the successor of an increasingly ethereal, immaterial and narcissistic medium, which produces images to be sent quickly and destined to \u201cfloat\u201d in the Cloud. Which allegories of the 19th Century Photography are surviving in the mutations of contemporary vernacular photography?<\/p>

A partir de 1854, el retrato fotogr\u00e1fico en el formato de carte de visite supuso una gran popularizaci\u00f3n de la fotograf\u00eda y expansi\u00f3n burguesa del negocio fotogr\u00e1fico. Las carte de visite<\/em><\/strong> eran normalmente una copia a la albumina 54 x 89mm en papel muy fino montadas sobre una tarjeta 64 x 100mm. En la parte trasera de la tarjeta, el estudio fotogr\u00e1fico daba informaci\u00f3n sobre su direcci\u00f3n y servicios. Dicha informaci\u00f3n iba a veces acompa\u00f1ada por algunas ilustraciones prefabricadas seg\u00fan el gusto victoriano de la \u00e9poca.<\/p>

Photo Allegories<\/strong><\/em> es una serie fotogr\u00e1fica basada en mi colecci\u00f3n de ilustraciones de los dorsos de las carte de visite<\/em> que delatan algunas alegor\u00edas con las que se identificaba el joven medio fotogr\u00e1fico. Mi intervenci\u00f3n digital consiste en suprimir toda la informaci\u00f3n caligr\u00e1fica de las carte de visite para dejar s\u00f3lo la ilustraci\u00f3n. Y al igual que las carte de visite<\/em> fueron las primeras fotos destinadas a los foto\u00e1lbumes familiares, esta serie se imprime en carcasas de m\u00f3biles, es decir, usa el dorso del \u00e1lbum fotogr\u00e1fico contempor\u00e1neo como soporte: el smartphone<\/strong>.<\/p>

Photo allegories<\/em> muestra \u00e1ngeles que fotograf\u00edan, que pintan, que mandan fotos desde las nubes, que sostienen espejos, que resplandecen al sol… revel\u00e1ndonos tanto la conexi\u00f3n del medio fotogr\u00e1fico con lo celeste, como el v\u00ednculo inicial entre la fotograf\u00eda, la pintura y el grabado.<\/p>

A trav\u00e9s de la historia de la fotograf\u00eda, este proyecto reflexiona sobre la popularizaci\u00f3n del propio medio y sus ra\u00edces. Despu\u00e9s de la democratizaci\u00f3n de Kodak a partir del 1888, el Smartphone conectado a internet parece ser el heredero de un medio cada vez m\u00e1s et\u00e9reo, inmaterial y narcisista, que realiza im\u00e1genes para enviar r\u00e1pidamente y destinadas a \u201cflotar\u201d en el Cloud. \u00bfQu\u00e9 alegor\u00edas de la fotograf\u00eda del s.
